Dear Moron,

Post by JigokuBosatsu »

Dear Game Developer,

Please do not suggest music to listen to while you game. Especially do not tart it up with the concept that "This is the music of X." While you may include some good bands/songs in your list, you will describe them in an ignorant and pretentious way. Fuck off, that is all.

Thanks,

Jess

P.S. What is with people who BACK IN to fucking parking spaces? And why are most of them big-truck-douchebags? TELL ME?!!!??!?!

What do you have against backing into parking spaces? If I were any good at it, I'd do it all the time; it makes pulling out much easier.

See, it's more difficult either way. So why worry about smashing into the two cars parallel to your spot when you can just drive straight in, and back OUT later into the open lane? ARRGH.

I once saw the best explanation for backing into a spot ever. Unfortunately, I can't find it.

So here's the thing. Draw an overhead view of you backing into a parking spot. Then outline the blindspot.

Do the same for backing out of a parking spot after you drove in normally.

Which one of those is safer?

The lane may not be open when it's time to back out later, and you have a car on either side blocking your vision. Whereas if you backed in, you're facing the lane and the cars on the side aren't blocking your way so you can easily tell if a car is coming.

The idea is sound, I'm just not very good at it.

I learned to drive on 5-ton trucks with only side mirrors, and had to park them on line in the motorpool, usually backing in due to trailers parked behind the trucks designated parking spot. Consequently, I find backing in more natural than pulling in.

Personally I find those double spaces so I can drive in, drive into the next spot and then drive out.

I generally don't back in, even though I have a rear view camera in the car.

That's what I do too, but if I had to choose, I'd rather back in than out.

Well, I'm glad everyone agrees that game developers should shut their damned traps about "appropriate music".

Well I'm not a game developer, but if I were, I would confine gaming music reccomendations to blogs.

Of course when I was a DM I didn't have all the digital music devices that we have today. I could really have fun with a good collection.

It's not even that stuff that bugs me... you know, "PLAY MARS, BRINGER OF WAR BEFORE THE BIG BATTLE SCENE." That's just obvious (though in all fairness, maybe some people wouldn't think of flavor like that). It's the Etherscope writers telling you that The Ramones are the soundtrack to a disaffected steampunk underclass.

NO.

I suck at backing in -- I'm always very afraid I'm going to hit the car to either side of me, so I always drive in and back out.

I always back my truck diagonally across at least two spaces. Makes getting in and out very easy, and it gives the people on either side more room do open their doors and back out as well. :)

To accomplish this I always camp out parking near to where I'm going, blocking the lane until at least two adjacent spaces open up.

[Edit] Also, J-pop is the best soundtrack to any kind of gaming. [/Edit]

Actually, if two spaces are open facing each other (you know, the car that would be close face each other, I'd just drive through one empty space to come out facing the other lane. So it -looks- like I backed into the spot when in reality, I just went across the lot divider and someone can pull into the space behind me.

And believe me, going forward is a lot more comfortable than backing up in a bigass truck.

Backing in is what you are supposed to do with commercial vehicles. You load from the back, not the front. If you back in, you load and unload from the sidewalk. If you pull in, you load and unload from the pavement where cars drive - and that's more disruptive to traffic and dangerous.

I used to drive an Ambulance, and backing in was preferred. No one wants to stand there with a gurney full of patient in a place where cars are driving.

Even trying to come up with the best rationalization I could for why people do that, I'm still drawing a blank. Is it just callous hate?

Seriously, though, I do regularly park across the white line at my apartment. The spaces are so small that if everyone parks like crazy people it's possible to fit an extra car, whereas otherwise the cars would have to be staggered every other space.

What kills me is, even seeing this happen every day, they just repainted the lines in the exact same places. [/rant]

If the carpark is half empty, and I'm doing a pop to the local shops run, I don't care if I accidently park badly. It's bizarre when you're at a huge and full car park though.

Yeah, I hate people that have huge trucks and can't park in one space. Being in Texas, I see a lot of it.

Now, narrow spots I can understand, but when I see a fucking Honda doing it, I rage.
